The Porsche 718 GTS 4.0 for 2020, if you have to ask why....

Porsche customers have complained, griped, and still handed over there money for a 2017-2019 718 Boxster or Cayman 4 cylinder turbo model. The 718 handles better and is more refined and sportier at the same than the 981 outgoing Boxster and Cayman which had the 3.4 liter flat six engine. I have one of these, the 981 Cayman S, and love it. I love the sound it makes... more on that later. The 718, when it came out, had a slight redesign from the 981, but the kicker was the turbo 4-banger. We were able to spend time back to back in the 981 and a 718 and while it was all true, the suspension felt more planted, more grip, etc....that sound. The crescendo of the flat 6 wail was gone. From 2000 rpm to redline is the same sound. A growl, a grunt, a rough soundtrack that doesn't change in tone all the way to redline.

Now enter Porsche in its infinite wisdom, all they had to do is look at the forums for feedback. The 2020 718 GTS will sport a 4.0 naturally aspirated engine!!! 394 horsepower and a claimed 0-60 of low 4 seconds. Porsche listened and the 718 has a model that is the go-to for us at RGS! The flat 6 howl is back! Fitted with the great chassis of the 718, what a package!

Tell us your thoughts, do you have the 718 4 banger? Does the 4.0 NA engine do it for you? Leave your comments below!
